Last night we had Izzie's birthday dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Finlinson. I asked Izzie to choose the menu, and of everything she could have picked, we dined on corn dogs, french fries, green peas and milk. Grandma brought jell-o with fruit in it, so it was a perfect kid meal. We ate on our nicer dishes and had icecream for dessert. Grandma and Grandpa brought her an easel that converts to a desk, and she got an air hockey table from mom and dad (on a PHENOMENAL deal from toysrus). I haven't quite figured out where to store everything yet, but the kids are thrilled. I guess the air

hockey table equates to the bounce house "Erick" got for his birthday last summer (also on a GREAT deal - I'm just realizing we seem to be very lucky!) in that I suppose it's kind of for both of them. They don't seem to mind. :-)

Last Saturday was the big birthday party. We normally just do parties every other year and then plan for the off-years to be a family party. However, somehow Izzie smuggled in a family birthday party because she had all her cousins in town still from Christmas vacation! So, we had a girl cousin party with a cooking theme. The girls first cut our sugar cookie dough and painted them with egg-wash designs.

For the benefit of the older girls we judged them for artistic merit, then while the older girls finished (they were more careful with their designs) we had a freeze dance in the livingroom with the others. Eventually everyone joined in and I got some great video that WILL be used for blackmail when they're a little older. Then we had hawaiian haystacks and let the girls design their meal. We opened presents and had cake and icecream, and it all turned out to be a really fun night!

We had all the Swenson, Pedersen and Archer girls and gave out ratatouille stickers and mixing spoons to the girls. I think Izzie really had a good time.

While we were partying, I should mention Erick went out with Justin, my brothers and dad miniature golfing, and Erick shot the ONLY hole-in-one for the evening, and on one of the most difficult holes! The next closest score on that hole was a 4. He was pretty excited, and loves being part of the "boys", although there really aren't many his age. All in all it was a pretty fun weekend!

What a fun idea! We haven't had Hawaiin Haystacks for a while, I need fo put that on my list!
That was nice seeing Sam and Erica's girls in the picture. Has she had her baby? I can't remember when she said she was due. We were just thinking hte other day taht we need to call them again. Abby has a litle girl in her class that looks just like Leilah (sp). She thinks that Sam is Joe's brother (from when he came to help us move) so she says "Dad's brother's daughter is in my class!" It took us a hwile to figure that one out.
I am going to make that for dinner too next week. My kids my actually it eat!
What fun times. I loved seeing your mom and Sam's girls. I love that you are close so you can have these fun celebrations together.
