2010 Tomatoes

I love to garden. I hate deer, squirrels and rabbits, and so far have no experience with moles but know our neighbors here have them, so I'm afraid I'm setting myself up for a summer of aggravation. However, in the spirit of being optimistic -

Here are the contestants for this year's best tomato!

Audrey and I planted them last week in potting soil and walgreen's plastic cups. Well, she helped fill the cups while I meticulously counted out and planted two tiny seeds for every cup. We used craft foam for the labels just to be cute, then we went ahead and wrote the names of the plants on each cup just in case our perfect rows were ever disturbed.

After moving them around at least three times last week (thank heavens we labeled the cups!) they've found a permanent home in my kitchen window...

And as of this morning, seem to be liking it there!

(and apparently I can't count to two correctly)

You're a better gardener than me. I wait until a little later in the spring and just by seedlings.

Good for you! I wouldnt't mind taking some of those fresh, sun-warmed tomatoes off your hands. If you have too many. ;)

I just finally planted some lettuce in a pot on our deck, but haven't gotten around to starting any other seeds--are you really planting that many tomatoes?

Oh, fun! I'm so excited for gardening! But, the season starts so late here, that I'm afraid I'll be too huge and tired to even attempt it this year. I'll just come visit you and your lovely tomatoes.

You amaze me! I wish I had your motivation in the garden.

Wow, how fun! I have the blackest black thumb around, but I REALLY want to change that! Maybe we should read a gardening book for our book club sometime soon? That would be awesome.
