So apparently we're the breeding ground for a chipmunk family this year. We've been watching what must be the parents, but now out of the burrow we are entertained by the young as well. We have large windows on the back of our house and the burrow is literally outside the kitchen window so it's been kind of fun. I guess I thought the rabbits and deer were "fun" at one time, too, so we'll see if I'm as charmed by them next year when we're planting our garden. I took these pics this morning - I think there are at least six chipmunks, and I think I've seen mom, dad, and four babies. I dunno, the things I see online about them say that dad's not usually present, but I think we have two adults. Whatever. In these pictures Mom's on the log playing lookout, the three more timid infants sit with their heads poking out of the hole and watch mom, and then there's one rebellious child who plays on the lawnmower. I guess every family has one.

Your camera gives me jealous twinges...seriously my camera would not get close-ups of chipmunks like that! I just have to keep thinking....christmas, christmas, it's around the corner?!
We like our camera, but it's had its issues, especially lately. I keep wondering if it's been dropped one too many times. But it's a canon SI3 and I love the zoom. Whatever you get, get a good zoom and image stabilizing stuff, it's so worth it!
