Confessions of a last-minute mom

Okay, so let me start this post by admitting that I don't HATE Halloween, however often I may have mentioned that within the past few days. Now, finally, after three Halloween parties, carving pumpkins (thanks millions to Grandma and Grandpa Swenson for helping with that!), three unsuccessful trips costume shopping and then two to the fabric store, a day decorating and a LONG day sewing, (I finally chose duds for all three kids YESTERDAY) I'm hoping my attitude will change as relax a little more into the holiday today as all the prep work is finally done. Tonight we can just do the Halloween thing - trick or treat, little soup party afterward, bask in the sugar glow to the tunes of "The Great Pumpkin", you know what I mean.

So in the spirit of "getting into it" on my blog, here are the kids' masterpiece jack-o-lanterns this year, with Izzie's first (she may have had a little grandpa help). She was so funny, because she wanted a scary pumpkin, then after we finished carving it she looked at it and screamed!! Then every time she saw it for the rest of the night we got the same response - it was too funny! Our little drama queen...

Nevermind in all the gladness we didn't get Erick's homework on Jack-o-lanterns done and will be cutting open a spaghetti squash later this evening to count the seeds. (And seriously this may have to be a rant for another post, but who gives holiday homework anyway??? As if parents don't have enough to think about getting kids ready for this festive time of year, now some of it will affect my child's grade?)

I will be the first to admit I really need to start all this earlier next year... and just pick everyone's costumes myself - maybe sometime in June... or maybe a trip to Lexington to rifle through Cheryl's costume box! What do you think? And I do like the holiday... it's just been an extra crazy one this year. :-)

So anyway...

Have a Safe, Happy Halloween Tonight!!!

(And expect pictures of the costumes that caused so much grief tomorrow!)

Come for the week. I have an extra bedroom in the basement!

Can't wait to see the pictures tomorrow. Loved the pumpkin carving/scream story and agree, a teacher should NEVER give homework on a holiday!

Have a wonderful night out together!

Happy Halloween!

Love,
Cheryl

Cute pumkin story - homework on a holiday for a kindergartner? Considering the time it takes to for Grant to actually carve his pumkin, he might not have ever gone to bed.

Laura;

I'll let you in on the secret to LOVING halloween: around Oct. 1 go to www.buycostumes.com and get all your costumes. Last year we all did Star Wars. This year it was pirates. And there's no panic as Halloween approaches about what we're going to do for costumes. :0)Costumes are $10 to $30 each--you can't MAKE THEM for that!
