Fast forward to last Sunday before church. We were in our usual rush - Justin's meetings start early so we have a pretty well polished routine getting ready in the morning. Unfortunately I'm not a great planner so there's not much wiggle room in the schedule and we were approaching the crazy phase just before I herd the crew into their designated seats in the van, when Audrey filed into my room for her hair combing. She looked really down. She kind of sighed and seemed so very sad I finally asked her what the trouble was. She looked up at me with these really big eyes and said, one girl to another, "*Sigh* Mom, I just don't feel very pretty today."
Done, done and done. Gone with the cotton hand-me-down sundress. A very sweet and altogether adorable little girl pranced out the door to church that day in a sea of taffeta and pink and green polka dots with the biggest grin on her face you've ever seen. Someday we might have to have that talk about "inner beauty", and all that comes with preteen and teen emotional trauma, but how happy was I that today's dilemma could be solved so easily? It will be a long time, though, before I forget that look and voice that said with that big sigh "Mom, I just don't feel very pretty today." Audrey, I know it won't help much at some points in your life, but know I think you're beautiful!

She's got that figured out too early! What a cutie!
She is ALWAYS beautiful to her grandma, even in her grubbiest of clothes!!
I agree with Audrey - you can know all about inner-beauty, but sometimes, and especially being a girl, there are just those days when a new dress really helps! Such a cute story!
I am a bit of a clothes horse - especially with my kiddos, so I usually have an extra shirt, bracelet or such on hand. And we have run into those days here as well where the kids need something extra - a big festival at school is suddenly more exciting because there is a new red shirt to wear for Chinese New Year. I never planned to have extra clothes for these reasons - but somehow it just works out to give them out during the year...and I'm with you, the smile the look of them floating through the air...makes me so glad something was just waiting in the closet for just that moment!
That is a sweet story.
Oh Audrey! What a little sweetie. I love that story. I think Audrey is just as cute as can be and you tell her I said so!
