We took the kids last week to do one of my most favorite things in the entire world - We took them to.....
The Theatre, dahling.
(make sure you read that in a really snobby English tone)

I fell in love with the Fox a long time ago. Well, maybe it was less than a decade ago, but we were meant to be together. Someday we'll be able to afford season tickets, but for now this was the highlight of my month - maybe of my summer! The kids did really well and I was just giddy reading the program to them and talking about "the pit" while I forced them to listen for different instruments warming up and made them look at the conducter "just one more time". The lights fell, I broke out the chicago-style popcorn and twizzlers (of course we'd been in such a rush getting out the door we hadn't time for a proper dinner), and the magic began. They LOVED it. L-O-V-E-D it. Okay, Izzie may have missed a significant portion of the second act, but that was the more somber, shorter part of the play anyway. Okay, she might have missed the walk out of the theater and the entire ride home, too, but it was worth it. I myself was surprised with the depth of the show. Disney makes entertaining movies, but Mary Poppins the musical was enticingly more complicated and I found myself drawing analogies I'd never seen before and thinking more deeply about the meanings behind the familiar lyrics. It was awesome. If you get a chance to go, do it. And if you do, buy me one of those supercalifragilisticexpialidocious souvenier t-shirts, because we were carrying kids out after the show and bypassed the line.

Oh my goodness! I'm so excited! We're going tomorrow! We've kind of been playing it down because it's only Kathryn and I that are going and we didn't want to rub it in Sydney's face. But, tomorrow is the day at 1pm! Did you bring your own snacks? Or can you buy those there? Do you really want me to get you a shirt? If it's possible, I will. Thanks so much for your post!
I saw Mary Poppins in London in 2007. I agree! It was awesome! I loved, loved, loved it!
Emily, it's SO FUN! Seriously, I had to go back in this post and link to the youtube version of the "S" song and I wanted to cheer all over again at the end of the video. :-) As for the shirt, I've been looking online for one so don't worry about standing in line tomorrow. I do want one, but seriously, the crowd... I hope you have fun - you'll have to let me know what you think! I really liked the second act, although it was a little slower for the kids, but it was shorter too so they did great. The play was longer than we'd expected, it's right near three hours. They sell popcorn and stuff in the lobby but you could probably bring your own stuff in a purse or something if you wanted to. I'm jealous you're going tomorrow, I'd go again!
Leslie!!! I'm so glad you commented! I've been wondering where you were and what you were up to these days, and now hopefully I can stalk you and find out. ;-) I hope things are going well!
I want to go to the Phantom but ofcourse want to get $70 seat and I cant talk Jay into it! I figured I will only go to the play once in my life...I want to be able to see it!! Now after reading your blog I might have to fight for those tickets or maybe just one and find a friend who wants to go.....(hint,hint)
Chris, that sounds like a great idea for a girls' night out, whether it's Phantom or something else. I know Wicked is coming again in the spring, too, or White Christmas for the holidays...
This is one of the must-see plays for us to take the kiddos too! I'm thinking it will be a reward that they will earn - so that we get something supercalifragislistic from their behavior before we go :) Glad to hear that you all had a MAH-VELOUS time darlings!!
Oh, I'm so totally jealous. But not so much that I'm not happy you all enjoyed it so much!
OOh! I wanna go!
