So, I've been really horrible these days at taking pictures places, but I'm getting kind of worn down on my blog, too, and seeing the same post from a few weeks ago every time I log on to read everyone elses' blogs is driving me crazy. One day I'll set up a blog reader, but I'm a little afraid once I do I'll never feel the motivation to post on my own again. So for now, I am forced to log in occasionally to reference that little list of names along the side, and in the process am greeted by the chocolate stale-ness of my own tired musings. Does everyone go through this? One of these days I'll make time to sit down and come up with some cute new color scheme and background or something, and maybe that will motivate me again to keep going.
It's funny, because come to think of it, everything in my life works that way - I thrive on small changes. Changes in routine, changes in decor, even changes to my wardrobe. I don't know if it's an ADD thing, or just an inability to focus on the same things all the time, but for example, I'm a neurotic furniture-rearranger. I go from room to room in my house and fight the urge to redecorate all the time. I have friends with very cute, decorator-type homes with vinyl lettering strategically placed on walls to highlight certain pictures or nooks, and although I love the polished look I know it would never work for me. I NEED to be able to move things around. I NEED to decorate for the seasons and holidays, just for the change I see in my home and the added impetus I feel to chase my two year old around keeping it clean. I NEED seasons, for that matter, for the same reason in my yard. I love painting - walls, furniture, anything that makes something different. I hated painting the white trim and doors in our house, because it doesn't make an obvious change in the way things look. I am totally the stereotypical "closet's full with nothing to wear", but one basic shirt or pair of earrings will revamp my spirits enough to discover all kinds of new combinations in what was before a black hole. Maybe it's a craving for a creative outlet, maybe it's just finding things to do other than the dishes, but that's the life/wife my hubby deals with day in and out.
(Now, lest I infer a love for change in general, I have to say I hate moving. I struggle for a while when school gets out or starts, because I need a new schedule. In fact, I struggle when soccer starts, or swimming lessons. On a smaller scale, I'm terrible at balancing last-minute schedule changes when I think I have my day planned. I don't adjust to those kinds of changes quite the way I crave the others. I also struggle when I have some random activity planned, like driving up to see the changing leaves, and the road is closed. Those things really throw me for a loop.)
Anyway, I think that may be the root of my uneasiness about returning yet again to Saint Louis next year. We have loved living there, and there really are a lot of fun things to do in the area. Justin has a great job offer we're mulling over, and as most of you will probably agree this economy could prove quickly the old adage "A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush." He loved his work there, we miss our friends, but even with all that I'm still having a hard time latching on to the idea of moving back again. I guess I feel like we've done everything I wanted to do there, and it's time to make up a new list somewhere else. I guess it's probably just time for another cosmetic change - maybe it's time to pull out the fall decor.

I hear Colorado is a great place to live . . .
:)
We did actually apply to a Nestle position in colorado... I need to call you and see how you've liked it so far! :-)
Oh, man...I LOVED this post. I found myself nodding along with everything you said. I too, am a compulsive rearranger. Having limited space and rather inflexible furniture pieces in this house is killing me. But now you've got me thinking. Hmmm...Matt just might come home to a rearranged house. And have you noticed how often I change the header on my blog? :-)
Wish you could stay in Utah. But Colorado is a great place to live. And my in-laws are there, so I could still visit!
My blog is stale also- oh and I too don't want to take an offer where I've already liveed...been there done that for me too.
Now Colorado- I LOVE Colorado (and since I've been there done that there but would Love to go back it must be good!!)
I know what you mean about needing change. I change the background color on my blog at least weekly. It never looks cute like yours, though. I need you to teach me how.
I can relate. -Erica
I too have to have change. Or at least change my location at least once a day. Even if it's just for a drive around the block, I just have to get out. It keep me sane. And I'm laughing because I am turning my girls into me. They wake up and say, 'Lets Go!'
Good luck with the job decisions. Rich is in the process of narrowing down fellowship places and he said Cincinnati would be great. I'm thinking, but I've been there so many times. I can't imagine living in a place for over 10 years and moving three times all with in an hour and half drive of eachother. I think I need more of a change. Like the east coast closer to the ocean. You can live anywhere for just one year, but I want more of an adventure instead of the same. Good luck with St. Louis. It's great to know you have options but it's stressful to figure out which one is the best for your family. Keep us posted!
Um.. I'm kind of biased about the St. Louis thing and for my own benefit I would love it if you came back. But I totally know what you mean. Marcellus and I kind of really wanted to get a job somewhere else, but this is where we were destined to stay. It's hard when you feel stagnant in a job, a ward, a calling, or even just a room! It just means it is time for something in life to get totally changed up. Probably it will be something that you least expect. (Bishop, maybe?)
Oh man, Holly, keep your horrible bishop thoughts to yourself! ;-) Just kidding. Yeah, I don't know what it is really - we can't think of a better company to work for from what we can find out through our own research, than Nestle Purina. I just don't understand what's keeping me back, but I guess we'll see. Maybe it's just a funk I'm in. :-)
