For the big day, we decided to get out and do something fun. Erick and Izzie's friend, Michael, joined us for a day at the Nascar raceway for pizza, cupcakes and lots of fun! The first thing they tried was the bumperboat ride. Erick was just tall enough to drive, so it pitted the men in my life against each other. I thought it would be a blowout victory for dad, of course, but it was Erick who figured out the watergun first!
But then it was dad's turn to get even!
And finally, a ride all the kids could enjoy! These little cars were deceptively thrilling. Even though they were kind of slow on the straight track, they whipped around the corners with speed that would make tilt-a-whirls everywhere proud! I thought Audrey would be terrified, and braced myself for the worst. Apparently, my fears were unfounded.
Hooray! We did this one twice!
Erick had originally wanted to do chuck-e-cheese, but I've had about enough of the place and wanted to try something new. As a compromise the kids played a few arcade games before we left, and Erick traded in his tickets for something like three gummy candies and thought it was a great deal. I paid 5 cents for the same candy for Izzie, so I'm not convinced. But it was fun. :-)
Justin picked up a little special number from the Nestle store at work and told Erick he had to finish the entire bar before retiring to bed on his birthday. I think Erick was genuinely terrified, and kept saying "But dad, that's not healthy!" I love kids. :-) Today the bar is still unopened on the counter, and if we eat it all ourselves before the end of the internship I'll be ashamed. We really need a ward activity or something to help us out, I think. Notice the weight on the bar - 9 lbs and change! Amazing. At least three people at the speedway asked him if it was real, and who could blame them!

What a fun birthday! I can't believe Erick is already 6 years old. Time has truly flown by.
Happy Birthday Erick!!!! It sounds like you had a great day!
Happy Birthday Erick! We hope you had a fun one. We miss you guys already! Can't wait until August! ;-)
Happy Birthday to such a cute kiddo! It looks like you certainly made the most of it!
Sorry I haven't commented to much lately. Summer has really hindered my blogging, but I have read and kept up with you. I'm so glad you are all together again.
But I am listening to the new right now and so worried that you are going to get flooded in St. Louis. What a mess! I couldn't believe those images of Coralville, IWA on the news. I have had so many friends and cousins living there over the years for medical or dental school.
I SO hope you guys stay dry. Rich and I spent (a whopping 30 hours) time in New Orleans this weekend and the devastation from Katrina was still very, very evident nearly 3 years later. I hope the mid-west avoids such tragedy.
Miss you!!
that would be news and Iowa. I haven't slept much over the past 2 days! Sorry!
Michael had such a blast. I haven't seen him smile quite so much in a while. Erick and Izzie were good for him. I'm glad you're back with us for a while.
Happy Birthday, Erick! That looked like a great way to spend a birthday!
that Crunch bar is HUGE!! It looks like it was a fabulous celebration - happy birthday to Erick! It's so fun and a bit bitter-sweet how fast timing goes with these kiddos...but wow, do they always move into very fun phases in life to make it continually interesting and a great adventure. I need to talk to you one of these days - I'll try to email...or maybe even call you - you took your cell phone right?!
