Happy Arbor Day!

We had three quakies in our front yard that just hadn't been doing well since we bought the house, and after realizing they weren't getting leaves this year we decided it was time for a change. So we put the kids to work...


Audrey had a little time-out in the pit. She wasn't happy about it, but it seemed to work well. We're thinking of digging another in the backyard, just in case we need it.

And the new tree - we chose a flowering pear and so far it's doing really well! When Justin got the aspens out we could see the rootballs were just wrapped around themselves basically still in the shape of the pot they'd come in years ago, so we dug the hole extra deep and wide and filled it with peat moss. And about the kids digging, don't let it fool you. The ground here is so hard the digging was done almost entirely by pick axe. Have I mentioned anything before of my amazing husband...?
