"Sir Eyring"

I, too, wondered about the strange ripple of laughter that filled the conference center after Elder Eyring took his place on the stand following the sustainings. Thanks for sending me this picture, Grandma S, and for the email solving that mystery!

from the email - "After President Hinckley finished with the sustaining of the officers of the church during the Saturday morning session, Elder Eyring had moved to his new seat on the stand. Unfortunately, they didn't show this on TV, but when President Hinckley turned around, he stood there for a moment looking at Elder Eyring, then picked up his cane and 'knighted' him on his shoulder and head. Truly one of the funniest things I've ever seen him do."

You can't help but love the cane! (And of course, the prophet who bears it!)

I didn't know that happened either. What a darling man! It fun to see the human side of them too.

As well, I had no idea why all the laughter - we were actually upstairs listening to the radio with the TV on downstairs - I can't remember why we weren't watching the TV but thought that I would have to re-watch that part to figure out why everyone laughed?! What a funny and amazing man President Hinckley is...I love him so very, very much!

I agree, Summer! My mom mentioned the other day she didn't think there had been a prophet for a long time who was more beloved than President Hinckley. Obviously I have no knowledge of most of them, but I imagine the Prophet Joseph was much the same in the minds of the people then.

But back to your thought... I admit there are days and things we are asked to do that just sometimes seem too hard. Or too time consuming. Or too much. But all it takes is a wave of that cane and I think "okay, but for President Hinckley, I'll try." He's truly amazing.
