This picture was taken the morning we got our first and only snow this year. And these two were the only ones to enjoy it in the morning before it melted off! We picked up Grandma Swenson the next morning at the airport and it's been hard to convince her this weather has really been mild this year! The week she was here actually felt like winter should.
We held Izzie's birthday party at the local ice rink and I was a little worried in the beginning. Justin and I each had a couple of kids (not our own) hanging on us in tears after the first skate session because it was "just too hard!" But after a little cake and icecream and presents they all seemed rejuvenated and when the parents arrived nobody could get their kids off the ice. I'm pretty sure most of the kids shut the place down. The photo above was our resident professional giving lessons.
This is one of my favorite pictures. Matt wasn't thrilled about skates, but he had a great time pulling grandpa around the rink wearing his tennis shoes. :-) I'm not sure it was legal, but nobody said anything and Matt had a ball.
Izzie's friends all brought such sweet and thoughtful gifts. She has an eclectic group of friends, but I like to think it's because she hand picks only the best ones.
And then there was Audrey. Izzie and Erick went into the evening convinced they were awesome skaters from the last (and only other time) we went. But Audrey was a little unsure. We were all amazed and impressed beyond belief when she turned into the little engine that could and skated her little heart out! She wanted nothing to do with holding hands, she was in it to win it and did an amazing job chug chugging around the rink. On the way home she said very quietly in the car "Mom, can I take iceskating lessons?" and then almost instantly dropped her head and crashed. Such a sweetie.
