I had so much fun at the annual Blue and Gold banquet last night with all my "BESTies". I think this year was the BEST theme - Circus!

The BEST food! (Corn Dogs, Waffle Fries and Punch!) Oh, and super cute decorations!
The BEST Awards ceremony (I finally got Erick caught up to get his Wolf and arrow points, he's actually earned his Bear too, but we decided to save that one for the next pack night.) We also had great skits and the BEST "history of the cub scouts" presentation by our fearless scoutmaster. The kids love him and we're so grateful for all the time he put into this!
And finally, the BEST cake! Sometimes you get lucky I guess, but this cake is really yummy! Chocolate Orange with Buttercream frosting and dark chocolate ganache on top. Wow. It was an experiment that was horribly successful, and the rest of the cake is still tempting me for breakfast. Wanna know the secret? Two cake mixes, one chocolate and one white. I used a frozen juice can of orange juice and mixed some of it up super concentrated, then substituted it in the white cake in place of the water. I also added some dried orange peel. Add a little extra water to both mixes (especially if you use a cake mix with pudding in it, like I did. The batter should be kind of pourable withoug being runny.) and pour them into the cake pan in an alternating pattern. Moist, yummy, chocolate with just the right amount of orange flavor. Oh, and orange food coloring. :-)
So, yesterday morning I hated cub scouts. Today I'm thinking we'll stick it out for another year. :-)
