We have gotten NO sleep at our house lately. Wait, let me emphasize that again. We have gotten NO SLEEP at our house this week. And no, it's not the baby. It's Audrey. She's coughing. It's a night cough - one of those every-few-seconds-I'd-scream-if-I-didn't-feel-so-bad-for-her coughs. I took her to the doctor today and apparently she tested positive for strep, so here's hoping the pink magic medicine does the trick, and fast.
Anyway, as a result for FHE tonight we were really thinking low-key, so we popped in a living scriptures video about George Washington and called it our late holiday celebration. The only thing I had to plan was an opening song, but I couldn't for the life of me think of anything from the hymnbook that struck me as appropriate. Actually, I realized I know no songs at all that seemed appropriate. The best I could do was to remember a few pathetic lines from a song I learned in elementary school. Really, I could only remember a few lines. I discovered the remainder of the song thanks to google search, but to the moment of typing this I can't remember the entire melody! I remember the first line going up and down like marching ants on the staff, but then I'm lost. If you know this song, could you help me out? My first-grader said he learned it at school this year, but he was no help with the tune.
When Washington was president, a long, long time ago;
He dressed so very funny, t'would make you laugh, "Ho,Ho!"
His hair was white tied with bows, and he wore buckles on his toes.
His pants were up around his knees; His hat three cornered, if you please.
When Lincoln was our president, a long, long time ago;
He dressed so very funny, 'twould make you laugh, 'Ho, Ho!'
His beard was long and black as night. It covered up his chin all right.
His coat was down around his knees; His hat a stove pipe, if you please.

Izzie went with us to the doctor and happened to cough while we were there, prompting a quick check in her throat as well. Surprise! Her glands were huge and her throat was red. Audrey's were both fine. However, Audrey tested positive for strep and Izzie was negative. I'd think they'd switched the cultures if I didn't have it on the doctor's word that wasn't possible. So they're both on antibiotics now, just in case. The excitement tonight was the moment Izzie broke out from head to butt in itchy hives. I'm allergic to penicillin, so now we're waiting until tomorrow to discover whether the hives are from the Strep or the antibiotic. So while we're hoping Audrey sleeps well, apparently it will be one more night before Justin and I are allowed the same luxury. It's okay, I know some of you haven't slept well in months - or whoarewekidding, years. So I won't complain too much. (fingers crossed behind my back, just in case.)

Complain away--its always nice to not feel like the only family out there who just can't seem to get sleep. :)
Hope the girls are feeling better (and that the allergy isn't too awful!)
I have the words and music to that song, just in case you want them! I know it well.
When I get home I'll have Audrey for a sleep over to help you get a break!
Izzie and Erick can come too if they want.
Oh come on... as if you've gotten any sleet lately, mom. :-) But if things don't improve maybe we'll take you up on that this weekend! I'm really hoping Matt will figure out falling asleep on his own sometime in the near future. I'm more optimistic about him doing it than about Audrey at this point.
Er, I mean sleep. Sleet you may have had, but sleep probably not.
