First quilt

So, I finally finished my I-spy quilt tonight. I know, as if I have nothing else to do with my time, as we're leaving Tuesday for Saint Louis, but I had the evening to myself and thought I'd get it together. One of these days I'll post about the rest of our week, but tonight has been so relaxing I just can't bear to spoil it. :-)

Anyway, when I say "finished" the quilt, really all that had been done previously was the cutting of some of the fabric squares, so it was kind of a big project for me. No, I didn't have a pattern or any instructions, as you might be able to tell from here, but I really wanted it done to take with us this summer for some reason, to this is how it turned out. I had planned to band it entirely with yellow fabric, but didn't purchase enough and had to improvise, for example. But it all worked out. I really think of it as something rather comparable to my kids' artwork on the fridge, or for that matter Audrey's best drawings on the walls here, and I hope my kids feel the same way. I know they'll improve over time with practice, and they may have some rough edges, but when they hand me their work I love them just the same.

Thanks Shelly, the more I look at it the more errors I find, but even those have yet to replace the nice feeling of have done it, and having it done. After I posted last night I found a stack of squares that should have been another row, even! Oh well, Curious George will make a nice pillow. ;-) When you wing everything you do, you get used to those things happening, I guess.

I am SO impressed. All handmade quilts are truly works of art. I haven't even begin to think about attempting to make one. The thought alone makes me think I'd do nothing else for months. I can't imagine what my family and house would look like at the end- starving and dirty probably.

Congrats! What a huge accomplishment!
