The Tulip Festival

So, this week is spring break for my kiddies, and it unfortunately coincided perfectly with Justin's reading days and final exams, so we're kind of on our own as far as entertainment goes. Fortunately, we have this amazing MBASA organization to help us plan a few activities and to get the kids out and running around!
Audrey running off some energy at one of the rotundas. She walked almost everywhere around the entire garden - I had to bribe her to ride at the end because she was walking so slowly... I'm glad I got such a lightweight stroller, because apparently I'll be carrying it from time to time!

The fountains in the Secret Garden were the runaway hit or the day. Not everyone's kids came away wet, but mine were soaked. Why not, right? We were only halfway through the garden, and they were mostly dry by the time we finished.

One more stop to play in a puddle... what is this fascination with water?

And FINALLY, some TULIPS! There were a few random ones throughtout the garden, but I could have seen more walking around my own neighborhood than going to Thanksgiving Point. I personally think they should postpone the "Tulip Festival" until they actually have Tulips, but we had a good time anyway and thanks to some friends got in for half price it wasn't that big of a deal. We've decided to make a trek of it again in a few weeks, when all the green you see in the background of some of the other pictures will finally be in full bloom, and the advertising outside the garden won't be quite so... off. :-)

What a fun day! I have never toured Thanksgiving Point, but may have to venture there this summer. I know a lot of people who love it.

Speaking of tulips, my neighbors have the most gorgeous bright orange/peach. I snuck over a few days ago and took a picture. They were that pretty. I planted a few tulip bulbs in my yard this spring, but they were the Wal-mart 59 cent variety and I'm not sure if I'll ever seen flowers or not. I'll just have to wait and see.

Enjoy spring break and good luck to Justin with finals. What a relief that will be to get done!

I had never been to the gardens, either! I'd only been to the meeting rooms, dinosaur museum, and basically the stuff up front. I was really surprised at how big the actual gardens were, and it was really fun for the kids to run and play there - a great way to wear them out and spend time with adults, too - I hope you make it out there this summer!

ps - I planted home depot clearanced bulbs in November one year in Saint Louis, and they came up great! Maybe you'll see some color yet!
