The Haircut

So, I was cutting Erick's hair today, as I always do. Nothing unusual, except for this faint nagging in the back of my head that I needed to be extra careful and pay attention because we were in a hurry. Anyway, just as I was finishing up my mom called, and as I talked I tried my best once again to be careful and to pay attention as I finished up around his ears and the nape of his neck with the clippers - no attachments. After I hung up the phone I got the idea that some of the hairs on top seemed to be longer than the rest, so went over the top of his head again quickly "to tidy it up", and shaved my five-year-old son practically bald right down the center of his head! Entirely shocked and mortified, I panicked as I envisioned the child breaking down and crying in front of me, or being mad because I'd given him a serious mow, and I could say nothing. Certain I would be immediately disavowed forever I just stared! My angel of a son, however, took it all much better than I expected. He looked in the mirror and immediately busted up laughing! Then he said - "Look mom! I look just like grandpa now!" I seriously laughed, and laughed, and laughed until tears were streaming down my face. And deep inside I was grateful to have such a wonderful, forgiving child. :-) We fixed up the rest of his head to match, almost, and off we went. With just a few weeks before school starts he's got one crazy summer haircut! I love my kids!!!
